is a legendary pioneerino hacker. She was a member of the founding 

gang and was Cyber Pranks editor of Mondo 2000. A contributing 

writer for Wired wA Future Sex magazines, she cowrote Mondo 2000: 

A User s Guide to the New Edge and Cyberpunk Handbook. 

She's a lifelong troublemaker and UNIX programmer, 

the first identified female hacker (in Stephen Levy's 

book Hackers), and inventor of the term cypherpu 

She appeared as herself as a smartdrugs SM witch 

in Ruby Wax's Spiritual Quest fox the BBC, 

writes "The Fifth Column" for The Net magaz 

and comments to the media 

on cyberspace.

is cofounder and former editor in chief of the 

legendary cyberculture magazine Mondo 2000. 

He coauthored Mondo 2000: A User s Guide to 

the New Edge and cowrote Cyberpunk Handbook. 

He is also a contributing writer with Wired an associate 

editor with Boing Boing and /^magazines, a regular columnist for Artforurn 

International 'and Japan Esquire, and has written articles in such publications as the 

San Francisco Chronicle and Whole Earth Review. He lectures worldwide and has 

appeared on national television shows, including Donahue and MTV's Buzz. His band, 

MV inc. (formerly Mondo Vanilli), has been confusing record labels for several years. 

He appeared as himself in the films Virtual Love and Twists of the Wire.
